Doors and Windows Shake Violently During Anak Krakatau Eruption
Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait region has undergone eruptions that have produced loud rumbles and tremors. The vibrations were felt strongly by nearby residents, causing doors and windows to shake on their own.
In video footage shared by the Banten Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Saturday (5/9/2026), the eruption of Anak Krakatau was seen shaking residents’ doors. The intense vibrations caused the doors to rattle loudly.
Other footage showed house windows vibrating, with the tremors even causing window curtains to move spontaneously.
BPBD Banten reported that the vibrations occurred several times starting from 01:00 WIB early this morning. By 07:00 WIB, residents also reported strong tremors resulting from the Anak Krakatau eruption.
A resident named Rizqi shared his testimony during the eruption, noting that loud booms and strong vibrations had been heard since the early hours.
“We have been feeling the window vibrations and occasional loud booms since 2:00 AM,” Rizqi told detikcom.
“We initially thought it was only happening in our house, but this morning it turns out all our neighbours experienced the same thing,” he added.
As of this morning, the resident admitted that vibrations are still being felt, appearing and disappearing intermittently.
Lava Fountain Eruption
The Geological Agency revealed that the eruption from Mount Anak Krakatau resembles a ‘lava fountain’, producing lava flows with bright red sprays.
“The height of the eruption column was not observable; however, the bright red colour of the eruption spray was clearly visible continuously. This eruption phenomenon resembles a ‘lava fountain’ that produces lava flows. Continuous eruptions lasting several hours associated with lava fountain eruptions are a common phenomenon,” said the Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, in a statement on Saturday (5/9/2026).
The current eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau is of the Strombolian type, producing ejections of incandescent rocks and volcanic ash.
“Mount Anak Krakatau is experiencing continuous eruptions accompanied by rumbling sounds. As of 04:40 WIB on 5 September 2026, continuous eruptions are still ongoing, and rumbles can still be heard from the Krakatau Pasauran PGA Post due to the ongoing eruption of Anak Krakatau,” he added.
