Door-to-door tax campaign launched
The West Jakarta mayoralty administration has launched a door- to-door campaign in an effort to collect the overdue property taxes.
Prior to the launching of the campaign, Mayor Sutardjianto inspected some 300 collection staff at the Grogol sports complex on Monday.
As of this month the mayoralty has only received Rp 5.2 billion (US$2.4 million) in property taxes or just 12.5 percent of the target of Rp 41.4 billion for the 1994/1995 fiscal year, which began in April.
"Even if you have to work till late at night, you must meet your tax subject and collect the amount owed," Sutardjianto said.
As reported by Bisnis Indonesia, the mayor reminded his tax officers that subdistrict chiefs are forbidden to use the funds for any reason and that they must hand in their collections to the district budget office daily. (mds)
