Dony, Sumedang Regent, Leaves PPP and Joins Gerindra, Welcomed by Sugiono

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir has left the United Development Party (PPP) and joined the Gerindra Party. Dony’s joining of Gerindra was marked by the handover of a membership card (KTA) from Gerindra Central Board Secretary General Sugiono on Friday evening (13/2).

According to the statement received, the membership card handover was witnessed directly by the public gathered in front of the Sumedang town square, West Java. Also present at the location were West Java Governor and Gerindra politician Dedi Mulyadi, West Java Provincial Legislative Council Chairman Buky Wibawa from the Gerindra Faction, and Minister of Change Maruarar Sirait, who is also a Gerindra cadre.

On the occasion, Sugiono expressed gratitude for Dony’s decision to join Gerindra. He hopes this decision can bring a positive impact on the development, prosperity, and welfare of the people of Sumedang.

“With Pak Dony joining Gerindra, the development of welfare and prosperity for the people of this regency will continue to increase. Welfare will be better for all residents of Sumedang Regency,” Sugiono said in his statement.

He said Gerindra always views politics as a path of struggle. Sugiono believes this is in harmony with what Dony has been doing in fighting for the people of Sumedang all along.

“Gerindra Party cadres are not politicians. Gerindra cadres are fighters who enter the political arena,” he said.

At the same time, Dony shared his reasons for joining Gerindra. As quoted from the same statement, Dony said his first consideration was the figure of the President of Indonesia, who also serves as General Chairman and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Gerindra, Prabowo Subianto. According to Dony, Prabowo is a visionary, decisive, and hardworking leader in building the nation.

“I see Bapak Prabowo as a leader who is hardworking, full of decisiveness, and has a sincere heart in building this beloved nation,” Dony said.

Furthermore, Dony considers Gerindra to have a strong commitment to nationalism, national self-reliance, national resilience, and a people-centered economy. He added that his decision to join Gerindra was based on extensive thought and lengthy discussions with a number of prominent figures.

Before joining Gerindra, Dony was a PPP cadre. His leadership as Sumedang Regent is also his second term. He has served as regent since 2018. Prior to that, Dony also served as a legislator at both the provincial and Sumedang Regency legislative council levels.
