Dony Oskaria Says KAI CEO Frequently Summoned by Prabowo to Discuss This
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Body (BP BUMN) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has a special interest in the railway transport sector.
This is evident from the frequency with which the President summons the President Director of PT KAI (Persero) to the State Palace to discuss the development of mass transportation that is easily accessible to all Indonesians.
“I must convey that the President truly loves public rail transport, as you can see, the President Director is often called by the President to discuss how we want to provide good and accessible mass transportation for all the people of Indonesia,” said Dony when met at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
One of the initiatives is the electrification of the Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Sukabumi, and Jakarta-Cilegon railway lines.
The project is even planned to have its groundbreaking ceremony on 20 May 2026.
“So this year, on 20 May, we will have the groundbreaking for the electrification of Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Sukabumi, and also Jakarta-Cilegon,” said Dony.
He explained that the electrification project is expected to encourage the growth of new cities along the railway lines, as well as support pollution reduction through the use of trains as mass transportation.
“By carrying out this electrification, new cities will come alive along (the lines), reducing urbanisation, reducing pollution, and also reducing the inefficiencies that occur in our transport modes,” he elaborated.
This evaluation is aimed at improving safety standards across the entire railway crossing network, both for passengers and road users.
The government will allocate Rp 4 trillion to improve 1,800 level crossings.
Dony said that in this regard, state-owned enterprises are ready to provide funds to support the improvement of level crossings.
“Earlier, the President mentioned there will be an additional Rp 4 trillion, but it will be combined with KAI’s budget, and state-owned enterprises will also participate,” he stated.
