Don't Try This: Man Caught Hanging Outside KRL Priok Train Detained

A video of a man hanging from the outside of an electric commuter train (KRL) went viral on social media. KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI) officers subsequently detained the man.

KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan stated that based on the examination, the unidentified man admitted to being under the influence of alcohol, causing him to hang from the exterior side of the train from its departure at Jakarta International Stadium Station until arriving at Ancol Station.

“Prior to the incident, the individual was also known to have entered the railway track area without permission, despite having been warned by officers,” Leza said on Friday (24/7/2026).

The man was performing the dangerous act of hanging on the outside of Commuter Line train No. 2247A on the Tanjung Priok-Jakarta Kota route on Thursday (23/7). The incident was discovered when the Commuter Line train entered Ancol Station at around 4.48 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. Security officers on duty spotted the unidentified man on the outside of the second carriage door from the front.

Officers immediately secured the individual and took him to the Security Post at Ancol Station for data collection and further investigation.

Following the examination, the individual signed a statement pledging not to repeat his actions. KCI also imposed a sanction by placing the man on a blacklist within the CCTV analytics database.

Subsequently, officers removed the individual from the Commuter Line service area in accordance with applicable procedures.

KAI Commuter stressed that hanging from the exterior of a train or entering the railway tracks without permission is extremely dangerous behaviour that threatens personal safety and train operations.

“We urge the public not to engage in any activity in the railway track area or hang from the exterior of the train. Such actions are extremely dangerous and can disrupt Commuter Line operations. The safety of users and the public is our top priority,” Leza said.

KAI Commuter also encourages the public to always comply with all applicable regulations in station areas and while using the Commuter Line. If members of the public witness actions that endanger train travel safety, they are urged to report them immediately to officers for follow-up.

“We are committed to providing safe, comfortable, and secure journeys for all users by strengthening supervision and promoting education on the importance of safety in the railway environment,” Leza concluded.
