Don't Take the Wrong Route: Guide to Accessing the Functional Japek II South Toll Road

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Road users planning to utilise the functional Jakarta–Cikampek (Japek) II South toll road during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr return flow are urged not to choose the wrong entry access. This alternative route cannot be accessed directly from arterial roads but only through the designated existing toll network. This follows the circulation of a video on social media showing several drivers stuck on an unusual route while attempting to enter the functional toll section. “No (entry from arterial roads). Entry access is only through the designated toll gates. So, it cannot be entered directly from arterial roads,” said Charles to Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026). He explained that drivers wishing to use this route must enter through already operational toll sections, one of which is the Sadang Toll, before being directed to Japek II South. This scheme is implemented to maintain road user safety while ensuring smooth traffic flow on the still functional status route. Although prepared to support the return flow, the operation of this functional toll is situational and not open all the time. The route’s opening will be adjusted to on-site traffic conditions, particularly at critical points such as the Cikampek Main Toll Gate. Several parameters serve as benchmarks for operating this route, including the length of vehicle queues at the main toll gate, vehicle speeds, and the volume-to-capacity ratio (V/C ratio). With this scheme, the presence of the functional toll is expected to help alleviate return flow density, especially for vehicles heading to Jakarta and surrounding areas. Nevertheless, road users are still advised to follow the directions of on-site officers and available traffic signs to ensure a safe and smooth journey.
