Don't pollute Jakarta's rivers

From Sinar Pagi

As a Jakarta resident who cares about the city's environment,
I am really concerned to see that a lot of garbage pollutes the
city's rivers. None of us should throw garbage willy-nilly into
rivers surrounding our beloved capital city as it can pollute our
environment to an alarming level. This can be seen clearly if you
walk along the Kali (river) Malang.

Today, garbage, particularly plastic trash, really obstructs
the flow of rivers in Jakarta. Along with other nonorganic trash,
the plastic garbage piles up near water gates under some bridges
so that it prevents the water from flowing freely.

Of course, river cleaning officers will have more to do if
there is low awareness from city residents. One matter of
greatest concern is that floods will cause disaster in the rainy
season. Is this really what we want?
