Don't issue short-term policy: Mega
JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri has asked provincial
and district administrations not to make regulations which seek
only short-term benefits.
Many provincial and district regulations were made only for
short-term interests, Gorontalo Governor Fadel Muhammad quoted
the head of state as saying during their meeting at the State
Palace here Wednesday.
Fadel said the President cited the regulation on retribution
as an example of those which are oriented only for short-term
gains.
He said that according to Megawati, such regulations in the
long run will only discourage investors from doing business in
the provinces or districts.
"The President reminded that provincial and district
administration heads should make regulations with long-term
interests as they will not always be in their positions as
governors or district heads," he said.
Megawati also noted that provincial and district
administrations should use the general allocation fund to promote
the potentials of their provinces and districts.
Fadel said the President wants provincial and district
administrations to formulate programs which are in line with the
central government's policies.
Meanwhile, he said his provincial administration plans to
revive the Gorontalo - Tawao (Malaysia) - Davao (Philippines)
trade route.
"We want to develop Gorontalo into a trade center in the
eastern part of Indonesia," he said. --Antara
