Don't Imitate! Viral Video of Motorcyclists Going the Wrong Way in Cakung on Monday Morning
A video of a group of motorcyclists travelling against traffic in East Cakung District, Cakung Sub-district, East Jakarta, has been circulating on social media. Vehicles approaching from the opposite direction were forced to yield to the motorcyclists going the wrong way.
In the video viewed on Monday, 2 March 2026, the incident occurred in the early morning. The motorcyclists appeared to be riding casually despite going against the flow of traffic, with no apparent obstacles.
Confirmed by AKP Eko Aprihanto, Commander of Traffic at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police District, the authorities had undertaken congestion management efforts that morning, including directing motorcyclists back to their proper lanes.
“It was just a large group like that, but it wasn’t actually for very long. They just went back into their proper lanes,” he said when contacted.
Additionally, officers focused on other critical points in the vicinity, including two intersections in the area. The group of motorcyclists travelled against traffic for approximately thirty minutes.
“It didn’t last long, just thirty minutes. We were about to take action when the traffic light happened to be out and only the yellow light was working,” he explained.
During the incident, three traffic police officers were stationed at the location. Penalties were issued in the form of verbal warnings, as citations are only processed electronically.
“There were three officers there in the morning, as I allocated my personnel accordingly. We issued verbal warnings. All citation procedures use electronic citations (e-TLE),” he said.
“The peak was around 9.00 a.m. WIB, and it eased off after that. The heaviest congestion was between 6.00 and 7.00 a.m. WIB, with officers stationed from 6.00 a.m. WIB onwards,” he added.
