Don't Be Surprised! Gallon Water Price Suddenly Rises by Rp1,000, What's Going On?
The price of packaged drinking water (AMDK) in gallon containers in the Jakarta area has been observed to have increased. Based on CNBC Indonesia’s field monitoring and statements from traders, the increase occurred from the beginning of this week, triggered by disruptions in the supply of plastic raw materials due to the conflict in the Middle East.
Alan, one of the gallon traders in the Setiabudi area, South Jakarta, said the price increase started applying from Monday (27/4/2026). He mentioned that the information about the increase came from the distribution centre, linking it to the impact of the global conflict on plastic raw materials.
“Yes, the price has gone up since last Monday, the 27th (April). Because of the conflict in the Middle East, the distribution of plastic raw material supplies is disrupted. That’s the info I got from the centre, so it’s up by Rp1,000 per gallon,” said Alan when met by CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
Alan explained that this price increase is uniform across several brands.
“For example, Aqua was Rp22,000, now it’s Rp23,000. Le Mineral was also Rp22,000, now Rp23,000. Pristine was Rp25,000, now Rp26,000. Vit was Rp18,000, now Rp19,000,” he revealed.
Regarding the price increase, Alan said it has already been communicated to customers.
“I’ve already broadcast it on WhatsApp to the subscribers that there’s a price increase. It’s been informed,” he said.
Although prices have risen, Alan said customer responses are relatively accepting. “Well, what can they do, they just ask why it’s up, but once explained that it’s because plastic raw material prices have risen, they understand. Because of the war,” he clarified.
From the supply side, he assured that stock is still safe. “Stock is there, safe for stock, I just ordered more to be delivered this afternoon. No restrictions, plenty of stock, just the price has gone up,” Alan added.
The same sentiment was expressed by another trader, Sera. She said the price increase affects almost all branded gallon products, except for refill gallons.
“Yes, all up. Except for refill gallons, which are still Rp10,000,” said Sera when met separately.
According to her, the price increase is also triggered by the rise in plastic prices at the upstream level.
“Yes, because of that war, they say plastic prices are up, so the gallons are made of plastic, so from the factory it’s already up. For refills, they just refill, just wash the gallon, no new production,” she explained.
Sera detailed that the average increase is Rp1,000 per gallon.
“Each up by Rp1,000 per gallon. Aqua to Rp23,000, Le Mineral to Rp22,000, Amidis to Rp23,000, refill still Rp10,000,” she concluded.
