Don’t be fooled! There is no Rasuna Said Car Free Day this weekend.
This week’s Car Free Day on Jalan HR Rasuna Said has been cancelled, with an alternative CFD available in the Sudirman–Thamrin area. The suspension is temporary pending several evaluation notes from the inaugural CFD in the area. The DKI Jakarta Department of Transportation says the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said will resume from June 2026, after various improvements and reconfigurations are completed. ‘HBKB on Jalan HR Rasuna Said is planned to resume from June 2026, every Sunday from 05:30–09:00 WIB,’ Syafrin said, as quoted by Kompas.com. One issue is the absence of turning points for vehicles on the east and west sides of the corridor. In addition, TransJakarta lane barriers have not been fully installed. The DKI Transportation Agency has also found illegal parking at several points during CFD. At the same time, several road works on the alternative routes are causing traffic congestion around the area. The DKI Transportation Agency also notes differences in road height following the demolition of monorail pillars; this could affect road users’ comfort during CFD. Moreover, crowding around Plaza Festival has led some runners and cyclists to use the TransJakarta bus lanes. The Jakarta provincial government believes the HBKB at Jalan HR Rasuna Said provides positive benefits for the public, including providing an alternative public space and a new area for sport in the city centre. Syafrin said air quality measurements around the location during CFD showed better conditions than on regular weekdays. In addition, the presence of CFD at Rasuna Said is seen as helping to reduce crowding in the Sudirman–Thamrin area.
