'Don't be afraid to report crime'
JAKARTA (JP): City Military commander Maj. Gen. Wiranto encouraged the public yesterday to actively take part in maintaining security and order in the city.
"Don't be afraid to report crime or ask for help from the community security men, grouped in Mitra Babinsa, whenever there are threats from criminals," he said.
The general was speaking to 2,000 members of Mitra Babinsa, a group of people who voluntarily help security officers in maintaining public order and stability.
Yesterday's meeting aimed to brief Mitra Babinsa members about security policies in the city.
Wiranto urged the participants, from all over the city, to continually monitor developments in their neighborhoods and report any irregularities to security officers at the earliest opportunity. (29)
