Don't be
Don't be
hypocritical
From Kompas
We have recently observed an historical day, Sept. 30, the day
when the September 30 Movement (G30S) and the Indonesian
Communist Party committed atrocities on Sept. 30, 1965, causing
the deaths of several army generals. Then we still have a vivid
memory of a series of riots which peaked with the May 1998 riots,
which brought down Soeharto. Later, there were other riots, too
numerous to mention.
Everybody has heard the facts and the truth about the barbaric
practices following these incidents.
Everybody knows that these barbaric practices were worse than
those practiced by the Indonesian Communist Party in 1965. People
have been massacred and human dignity perverted everywhere. How
can we be forced to forget all this?
Shall we, as living witnesses of history, cover our dark
history and hide evil from virtue? How will we account ourselves
to the later generation? Are we not ashamed as a nation with
dishonest and mentally rotten leaders incapable of enforcing
justice and truth?
What must this nation do now? Uproot all evil, rottenness and
lies.
It is not necessary for us to teach other people. We must
educate this nation so that it will become a great and honest
nation that commands respect. It is all left to us whether to be
heroes or losers.
