Don't Arbitrarily Set WFH, Deputy Interior Minister Asks Regions to Follow Central Government
Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto has emphasised that every regional government must adjust its Work From Home (WFH) policy to one day per week for Civil Servants (ASN), in line with the central government’s directive. This policy is not at the discretion of regional heads.
“(Do regional heads have discretion?) No. Everyone must follow the centre,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (7/4).
The one-day-per-week WFH policy on Fridays is outlined in Circular Letter No. 800.1.5/3349/SJ issued by the Interior Minister, effective since its issuance on 1 April 2026.
Regional governments are encouraged to follow the circular and implement WFH on the same day, Fridays. Bima cited the Bekasi City government and Indramayu Regency government, which previously implemented WFH on Wednesdays, now adjusting to the central directive.
As of today, the Governor of South Kalimantan has stated that WFH will not be implemented. In response, Bima said communication would be conducted with the relevant party.
“We will communicate with the South Kalimantan Governor. (Is there a sanction for regions not implementing WFH?) We will communicate first,” Bima concluded. (Mir/P-3)
