PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) has reactivated short selling transactions. In its announcement, the IDX Board of Directors stated that the Financial Services Authority (OJK) had instructed the Exchange to implement Short Selling Transaction Financing in stages, whilst taking into account infrastructure readiness, adequate risk mitigation and effective supervision.

“The reimplementation of the mechanism as referred to in point 1 shall take effect from 15 September 2026,” the IDX Board of Directors said in its announcement, quoted on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

The Exchange will issue a Short Selling Securities List, as regulated under provision III.2 of Exchange Regulation Number II-H concerning Requirements and Trading of Securities in Margin Transactions and Short Selling Transactions, on 28 September 2026, to take effect in the period from October 2026.

As a reminder, on 17 September 2025 the OJK issued a letter postponing the implementation of short selling, trading halts and auto rejection limits.

On 13 March 2026, the OJK extended that postponement policy. The IDX announced the extension of the postponement on 16 March 2026.

Most recently, on 9 September 2026, the OJK issued a letter concerning the determination of policies on auto rejection limits, trading halts and the implementation of short selling, which formed the basis for the reactivation of the short selling mechanism.
