Donald Trump Demands Cancellation of US 250th Anniversary Concert Amid Musicians' Withdrawals

US President Donald Trump has demanded the cancellation of a concert to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. The decision follows several high-profile musicians withdrawing to avoid being associated with White House politics. In a post on Truth Social, Trump vented his frustration at the performers. “Cancel it,” Trump wrote, labelling the scheduled artists as “too expensive” and “boring”. As of Sunday local time, only a few acts remain from the nine musicians initially announced last Wednesday. High-profile names including Martina McBride, The Commodores, Young MC, and Bret Michaels have confirmed their withdrawal, while Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, and Flo Rida are reportedly still on the schedule. In response, Trump stated he is considering replacing the event with a political rally for his supporters. The chaos began when musicians realised the political involvement in the Great American State Fair event organised by Freedom 250. Despite claiming to be non-partisan, the group was established by Trump’s administration last year, with its CEO appointed directly by the president. Rapper Young MC revealed artists were initially not informed of the event’s political ties. Similarly, country singer Martina McBride felt misled. “Given the chance to perform at a non-partisan event, but it turned out to be misleading,” McBride stated in a formal X post. Conversely, rapper Vanilla Ice defended his decision to stay, claiming the event was purely to celebrate America’s birthday, not a political stage. In response to the artists’ withdrawals, Trump mocked them for suffering from “the yips” (performance anxiety) and plans to take over the National Mall event slot in Washington DC for his own rally. “I have instructed my representatives to assess the feasibility of holding an AMERICA IS BACK rally on Wednesday, same time and location in Washington, DC. Only Great Patriots will be invited,” Trump wrote, claiming he is the world’s top attraction capable of drawing larger crowds than Elvis Presley at his peak. The White House has backed the independence anniversary events through Freedom 250, including plans for a UFC fight on the South Lawn, a Grand Prix race in August, and limited-edition passports featuring Trump’s image.
