Donald Trump Claims US Forces Killed ISIS Leader

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - US and Nigerian forces killed a senior ISIS commander on Friday (14/5/2026), according to US President Donald Trump. The ISIS leader was killed in an operation that Trump said successfully reduced the strength of the militant group.

“Tonight, at my direction, our brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a carefully planned and highly complex mission to eliminate the world’s most active terrorist from the battlefield,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday night local time.

The operation was first announced by US President Donald Trump, who described Abu-Bilal al-Minuki as “the second in command of ISIS globally” and “the world’s most active terrorist.”

Trump called “Abu-Bilal al-Minuki” the second most important person in the global ISIS command, as quoted by CNN.

“He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target American citizens.”

According to documents from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control, al-Minuki was born in 1982 in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, which borders Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

Meanwhile, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu said in a statement that al-Minuki was killed along with a number of his lieutenants in an attack on an ISIS base in the Lake Chad Basin.

Nigeria and the US have increased military cooperation as the country has stepped up efforts to combat extremist violence.

In April, ISIS claimed responsibility after a number of gunmen killed at least 29 people at a football field in Adamawa state, northeastern Nigeria.
