Donald Trump Asserts US is Not Seeking Negotiations with Iran
US President Donald Trump has emphasised that Washington is not currently seeking negotiations with Tehran. However, Trump stated that he does not rule out the possibility of discussions in the future should circumstances allow.
“We are not pushing (for negotiations with Iran). Yes, negotiations may occur, but it is not something we are currently pursuing,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday, as reported by Sputnik/RIA Novosti-OANA.
This statement comes amidst prolonged tensions involving direct military action. According to gathered data, the timeline of the conflict between the two nations throughout this year shows that the armed conflict has yet to find a permanent solution. Rather than prioritising active diplomatic channels, Washington has chosen to shift its strategy by increasing economic pressure on Iran.
This move is intended to end the conflict by creating additional financial strain on Tehran. The US government hopes that the heavy economic burden will force Iran to alter its foreign policy or agree to return to the negotiating table under terms more favourable to the West.
Russian representative Mikhail Ulyanov noted that the IAEA resolution proposed by the US and its allies regarding Iran is confrontational and triggers new tensions. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump predicts that the conflict with Iran will end shortly after the November mid-term elections, amidst the risk of Republican losses in the House of Representatives.
Military escalation between the US and Iran increased after at least seven oil tankers were attacked in the Persian Gulf, causing oil prices to briefly breach US$100 per barrel. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has urged allies to fully isolate Iran economically, with the US threatening strict sanctions against any nation that assists the Tehran regime.
