Dompu Regency and PT STM Strengthen Community Economic Empowerment Programme
The Dompu Regency Government and PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) have signed a memorandum of agreement for the Community Development and Empowerment Programme (PPM) for the 2026–2031 period. The cooperation covers a number of areas related to increasing income, employment, and economic independence for communities around the Hu’u Project working area.
The five-year agreement is directed at aligning the PPM programme with Dompu Regency’s strategic programmes, while supporting regional development and improving community welfare.
Within the 2026–2031 PPM framework, STM is focusing its programme on eight areas: education, health, income and employment improvement, economic independence, environmental conservation, social and cultural affairs, community institutions, and supporting infrastructure.
Dompu Regent Bambang Firdaus said the cooperation could serve as a form of support for developing community potential and the regional economy.
“Although STM has not yet generated production output, there are efforts to embrace and assess the condition of our community empowerment, from education, economy, MSMEs, to social and cultural affairs,” Bambang said at the event held at the Dompu Regent’s Pendopo Hall, in a statement received on Saturday (29/8/2026).
According to Bambang, the involvement of various parties is necessary to optimise regional potential. He therefore invited the community to support the investment climate in Dompu Regency.
“We must realise that we need other parties to help manage the potential we have in order to realise our shared aspirations. ‘Dompu Maju’ will only become a mere slogan if we do not implement what is our potential today,” he said.
Through the agreement, the Dompu Regency Government and STM will align the implementation of empowerment programmes with community needs and regional development direction.
STM Community Relations Manager Ulya Defretes said the memorandum of agreement is a continuation of cooperation between the company and the Dompu Regency Government in implementing various community empowerment programmes.
“Prior to this latest agreement, STM and the Dompu Regency Government have consistently synergised to develop the region through various programmes. This memorandum of agreement further strengthens that synergy, with the hope of delivering better positive impacts for the community,” she said.
Ulya said that in 2025 there were 17 derivative PPM programmes from STM reaching more than 21,115 beneficiaries, with a programme value of approximately Rp 9.1 billion.
“These programmes could be implemented thanks to the support of all parties. For the implementation of the next PPM programme, we will determine it together with the government and representatives of the Dompu community,” she explained.
One of the priority programmes in the next PPM implementation is the Fishermen’s Wharf Development Programme (PPDN). The programme is directed at supporting access for fishing activities and related maritime businesses in Hu’u District.
Ulya said discussions on the PPDN with the Dompu Regency Government have begun through the first phase of focus group discussions in May 2026. The process will continue to determine the programme’s implementation.
“For this PPDN, we have started discussions with the Dompu Regency Government through the first phase FGD last May. We will continue the process so that the programme can soon be felt by the community,” she said.
