Dompet Dhuafa Team Combs Earthquake-Affected Areas in NTT, Red and White Mosque Nearly Flattened

Dompet Dhuafa has dispatched teams to survey areas affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake centred in Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Regions already assessed include Nagekeo/Mbay, Sikka, West Manggarai, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ende, Alor, Lembata, and other areas still under monitoring.

“The team began moving from the LKC (Free Health Services) to the Dompet Dhuafa Disaster Management Centre team from this morning to assist, respond to and handle communities affected by today’s earthquake,” said Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday (15/8/2026).

Ahmad said his team deployed volunteers to conduct assessments regarding emergency needs, such as communal kitchens and other basic necessities required by affected residents. Meanwhile, the Dompet Dhuafa LKC team has established a health post in Ronting, NTT.

One member of the DMC team, Muhidur, described one of the affected buildings, namely the Al Istiqomah Ronting Mosque, commonly known as the Red and White Dome Mosque, in Lemba District, East Manggarai.

“This is the situation after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake: the mosque has collapsed and is almost level with the ground. This illustrates the devastating impact of the earthquake that struck. Sea water rose as far as the shoreline,” said Muhidur.
