Dompet Dhuafa Sends Hundreds of Low-Income Migrants Home for Eid Holiday
Jakarta — Dompet Dhuafa, a philanthropic organisation, has dispatched 750 low-income migrants through the Kampung Halaman Ceria (Happy Hometown) programme for the 1447 Hijriyah year.
Fifteen buses departed from the CIBIS Park Mosque area in South Jakarta on Saturday (14 March 2026), heading to various districts across Java and Sumatra.
The atmosphere surrounding the free homecoming programme’s launch was filled with emotion and joy. Traditional Betawi music, tanjidor, accompanied the departure of hundreds of participants who were returning to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with their families.
One participant, Wagito, who was heading to Wonogiri, expressed gratitude for being able to participate in the programme. The chicken noodle and meatball seller from Ciputat, South Tangerang, departed with his wife and child towards Solo, the nearest point to his hometown.
“What we most look forward to is going home, gathering with my father and family, even though my mother passed away last year. Back in my village I will return to farming. I plan to stay there for three weeks before returning to Jakarta,” said Wagito.
The departure was led directly by Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of Dompet Dhuafa. He was accompanied by members of the board and several collaborative partners, including representatives from D’Besto, CIBIS Park, Piknik Bus Semar Mesem Indonesia, and Dua Belibis.
Ahmad Juwaini stated that Mudik Kalcer is one of Dompet Dhuafa’s flagship Ramadan programmes, designed to help low-income communities maintain the tradition of mudik (homecoming).
“This homecoming service also represents Dompet Dhuafa’s accountability to donors in bringing goodness during the month of Ramadan. Hopefully it brings happiness to the migrants so they can visit and strengthen bonds with their families,” said Juwaini.
