Dompet Dhuafa Holds Joint Prayer and Opens Medical Post in Central Kalimantan
Forest and land fires (karhutla) during the current dry season continue to impact communities across several regions in Central Kalimantan. The consequences are evident not only in air quality but also in its effects on public health and the availability of clean water.
Dompet Dhuability held a joint prayer session alongside humanitarian actions at the Sabilal Muttaqin Islamic Boarding School field, Basirih Hulu, East Kotawaringin Regency, on Friday (18/09/2026). The activity involved local residents, boarding school students, volunteers, and various stakeholders to respond to the impacts of the drought and forest fires.
Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Dompet Dhuafa Board, stated that the joint prayer is part of an effort to address the drought and forest fire conditions from both spiritual and humanitarian perspectives.
“As a form of both physical and spiritual effort in facing these conditions, Dompet Dhuafa has initiated this joint prayer, which is also coupled with several humanitarian actions for the community,” said Ahmad.
According to Ahmad, the event also serves as a collaborative space for the community, boarding schools, volunteers, and partners to respond to the impacts of the forest fires.
“This joint prayer is expected to become a collaborative space between the community, boarding schools, volunteers, partners, and various parties in responding to the drought and forest fire conditions through spiritual, social, and humanitarian approaches,” he added.
In addition to the prayer session, Dompet Dhuafa has deployed volunteers and the Disaster Management Center (DMC) team to assist in managing fire hotspots. Medical teams have also been deployed to provide healthcare services for residents affected by the smoke from the forest fires.
Ahmad noted that the assistance provided includes the distribution of masks and the provision of ‘safe schools’ to reduce smoke exposure for children within school environments. These rooms are equipped with exhaust fans, air purifiers, and plants intended to help maintain indoor air quality.
“We continue to strive to assist the community, particularly regarding the impacts of forest fires, by mobilising our volunteers and the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team to extinguish fire hotspots, while our medical teams assist survivors of the smoke, distribute masks, and establish safe schools,” Ahmad added.
During the event, Dompet Dhuafa also opened a free medical post for the public. The service includes the distribution of masks to help residents cope with the effects of the forest fire smoke.
“In this activity, we are also providing free medical post services and distributing masks to the community,” said Ahmad.
