Philanthropic foundation Dompet Dhuafa has confirmed that halal slaughterers for the 1447 Hijriah/2026 Gregorian Eid al-Adha programme are certified and competent in the entire process of slaughter, counting, and distribution of meat to recipients.

“We ensure that halal slaughterers are competent,” said Ali Bastoni, Dompet Dhuafa’s Head of the 1447 Hijriah Qurban Programme, at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

Ali explained that this year’s Qurban programme aims to reach 36,000 goat or sheep equivalents. By Monday morning, 21 equivalents had been entrusted by muzaki.

This target marks an increase from last year’s 29,000 equivalents. The meat will be distributed to low-meat-consumption areas, 3T regions (underdeveloped, remote, and outermost), disaster zones, and Palestine.

According to Ali, having qualified slaughterers is crucial to ensure the animals are slaughtered in accordance with Islamic law and to maintain safety standards.

For slaughters in 3T regions, Dompet Dhuafa assigns programme representatives or coordinators to ensure halal slaughterers are competent.

“We usually prepare by training slaughterers, but if none are available, we bring in experts from neighbouring areas—though they’re typically part of the Dompet Dhuafa family,” he said.

Ali cited that sacrificial animals come from partner farmers, with local breeders also involved to ensure even economic circulation and for communities to receive blessings and joy from Eid al-Adha.

“This pillar embodies empowerment, elevating mustahik to muzaki status, while also boosting the economy by cutting out middlemen. That’s why we buy directly from farmers,” Ali added.
