Jakarta – Dompet Dhuafa has called on Muslims to pay zakat fitrah on time during Ramadan. Zakat fitrah is considered not only essential in perfecting the fasting ritual but also brings significant social benefits to those in need.

Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dompet Dhuafa Republika, stated that zakat fitrah holds important spiritual meaning in perfecting a Muslim’s fasting practice. Beyond being an obligation, zakat fitrah also strengthens social awareness within the community.

“Zakat fitrah carries profound significance. Beyond perfecting the fasting ritual, it also serves to purify the soul from various shortcomings during the practice of worship in the month of Ramadan,” said Ahmad in a press statement on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Ahmad explained that zakat fitrah also has a strong social dimension as it helps those in need to experience happiness during Eid al-Fitr. Through zakat, Muslims are encouraged to share so that the joy of the holiday can be felt more widely.

“Through zakat fitrah, Muslims learn to care and share. This is not merely a religious obligation, but also a form of social solidarity so that our less fortunate brothers and sisters can also experience happiness on the day of victory,” said Ahmad.

Beyond purifying the soul, zakat fitrah is believed to bring blessings to one’s wealth. By paying zakat, Muslims cleanse their wealth whilst cultivating gratitude for the blessings received.

Zakat fitrah also helps those in need meet their food requirements before Eid al-Fitr. Targeted distribution of zakat is expected to allow the recipients to celebrate the holiday more dignified.

Ahmad added that zakat fitrah serves as the completion of the Ramadan fasting ritual, atoning for any improper actions during the month.

“Zakat fitrah is the culmination that perfects the Ramadan worship. Through zakat, we cleanse ourselves from matters that may diminish the value of our fast whilst providing tangible benefit to those in need,” said Ahmad.

He reminded that zakat fitrah must be paid before the Eid prayer is performed. If given after the Eid prayer, it is no longer considered zakat fitrah but is instead categorised as ordinary charity.

Dompet Dhuafa also noted that people can now pay zakat through various digital services provided by zakat collection organisations. This convenience is expected to encourage more Muslims to pay zakat fitrah on time so that its benefits can be quickly received by those entitled to it.
