Dompet Dhuafa Ambulances Continue Mobilising to Evacuate Palestinian Citizens
Gaza has yet to recover. Heavy explosions continue to shatter the dawn silence, as brutal attacks by Israeli occupation forces leave deep sorrow among civilians, particularly innocent children.
On Monday, 8 June 2026, Dompet Dhuafa received distressing reports directly from a partner in Gaza. Four residential apartment units were levelled by relentless bombing, resulting in fatalities and over 20 injuries. Among the victims is Hala Labad, a young girl found amidst thick smoke and the rubble of her family home with moderate injuries across her body. However, her physical wounds pale in comparison to the tragedy she faced upon waking; her family was killed instantly, leaving her an orphan amidst the growing uncertainty in Gaza.
“Hala Labad is the sole survivor of her family; five of her loved ones perished instantly in the bombing that struck their home in the early hours,” reported Dompet Dhuafa’s partner in Gaza.
Despite the dire situation in Gaza, support from Indonesia remains steadfast. Amidst the destroyed streets and debris, a white ambulance with sirens continues to navigate through the danger. The ambulance, a collective trust and a symbol of affection from the Indonesian people, never ceases operation. Under the constant threat of follow-up attacks, medical teams and local Dompet Dhuafa volunteers continue to drive these vehicles to evacuate the wounded and transport the deceased to the nearest hospitals.
“For the people of Gaza, the presence of this ambulance is tangible proof that they are not fighting alone. In every rotation of its wheels, there are prayers, tears, and solidarity from millions of Indonesians accompanying their struggle,” said Dr Yeni, General Manager of Health at Dompet Dhuafa.
International solidarity is also moving to bypass the blockade. Recently, this was manifested in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0, a global humanitarian mission carrying hundreds of activists from dozens of countries to deliver logistics and advocate for Palestinian independence. Among the humanitarian fighters were nine delegates from the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), including two members of Dompet Dhuafa, Ronggo Wirasanu and Herman Budianto.
This mission faced significant challenges, as the humanitarian ship was unilaterally intercepted in the Mediterranean and delegates were detained by Israeli forces. However, the determination of the volunteers and continuous prayers from the Indonesian people led to their release, and the nine Indonesian delegates have since returned safely to Indonesia.
“This extraordinary journey is a concrete form of our commitment that we will never let our brothers and sisters in Gaza fight alone. The return of these delegates serves as a new spark of spirit for us all to continue seeking aid through stronger and more consistent means,” stated Ahmad Juwaini, Chairman of Dompet Dhuafa and Director of GPCI.
As the situation in Gaza worsens, the need for emergency assistance remains urgent. While the trust provided by donors has saved many lives through the Dompet Dhuafa Ambulances, the struggle is far from over.
