Dompet Dhuafa Aceh distributes sacrificial meat to 800 flood survivors in Sawang
Sawang, Aceh Utara – Dompet Dhuafa has distributed sacrificial meat to flood-affected areas this year, including in Riseh Teungoh, Sawang, Aceh Utara. On Wednesday, 27 May 2026, Dompet Dhuafa Aceh, in collaboration with local communities, distributed meat to 800 residents.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you to donors who contributed through Dompet Dhuafa for distributing sacrificial meat in our area after the flash floods. 800 residents are still living in temporary shelters and government-provided emergency housing,” said Sukri Puteh, Village Head of Riseh Teungoh.
“The flash flood affected 86% of the area, including village offices, mosques, schools, markets, and other public facilities. Many houses were also swept away,” said Sukri Puteh.
A total of 16 animals were distributed to Riseh Teungoh for slaughter. However, there was a unique approach: each animal was divided among 10 families to ensure even distribution. This method also ensured all meat was consumed immediately, as there were no refrigerators to store it.
Dompet Dhuafa Aceh Branch Head Rizki Fauzan said many Aceh residents affected by the flash floods still live in temporary shelters. “Sacrificial meat distribution has been prioritised for these communities, given the difficult access and lack of public facilities to support economic recovery. This is evident in Riseh Teungoh Village, Sawang, Aceh Utara,” he said.
