Domino Effect of Amsal Sitepu Case: Dante Rajagukguk Removed from Karo District Prosecutor's Office by ST Burhanuddin
The domino effect of the videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu case is beginning to be felt within the Adhyaksa Corps. Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin has taken firm action by removing Dante Rajagukguk from the position of Head of the District Prosecutor’s Office (Kajari) in Karo.
This change is outlined in the Decree of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia Number 488 of 2026, dated 13 April 2026. The information was confirmed by the Head of the Public Relations Centre for Law of the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatna.
The position of Kajari Karo is now filled by Edmond Novvery Purba. However, as of now, the new position that Dante will occupy after his removal is not yet known. Not only at the District Prosecutor’s Office level, the rotation also affects officials at higher levels.
Harli Siregar, who previously served as the Head of the North Sumatra Provincial Prosecutor’s Office (Kajati), has now been transferred to become Inspector III at the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision. Meanwhile, the position of Kajati North Sumatra is filled by Muhibuddin, who previously held a position in West Sumatra.
This reshuffle is inseparable from the sharp public spotlight on the handling of the Amsal Christy Sitepu case. The case sparked controversy after prosecutors assessed there was an alleged mark-up in the village video project proposal.
Each project was reportedly set at Rp30 million per village. However, in the process, prosecutors found that several works did not match the Bill of Quantities (RAB). Nevertheless, the Panel of Judges at the Medan District Court decided to acquit Amsal of all charges.
The judges ruled that there was no strong evidence indicating any criminal act, either in the primary or subsidiary charges. This situation then led to an internal evaluation. The Attorney General’s Office examined four prosecutors involved in handling the case, including Dante Rajagukguk.
Anang emphasised that the examination was conducted thoroughly to investigate any possible procedural violations from the initial stage to the prosecution process.
“Overall handling. From the beginning to the end, including not only the handling from the initial investigation but also the prosecution process up to now,” he said, quoted on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Previously, it was reported that a major reshuffle occurred within the Republic of Indonesia Prosecutor’s Office. Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin carried out a wide-ranging rotation of positions, from the central to the regional levels.
