West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) supports the Domestic Workers Protection Law (UU PRT) that has been passed by the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). He stated that domestic workers must be protected from various aspects, such as wages, health, and retirement.

“I agree, domestic workers must be protected,” he said at Gedung Pakuan, Bandung, on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

He explained that the forms of protection that must be given to domestic workers include wage protection, health, and retirement. Because, according to Dedi, not all employers care for their domestic workers.

“Domestic workers must be protected, their wages must be addressed, their insurance must be addressed, their retirement must be addressed. After all, not all employers care. Many employers do not care for domestic workers,” he said.

Previously, the DPR RI Plenary Session officially passed the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) into law. The meeting, chaired by DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani, took place in the Plenary Meeting Room, Nusantara Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

“Has the time come for me to request the approval of the factions on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill. Can it be approved to be enacted as a law?” asked Puan, who was answered “Agreed!!!” by all the meeting participants present, accompanied by applause and cheers of joy from the domestic workers who attended the meeting.

The enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Law (PPRT) is seen as an important step in providing legal certainty for workers in the domestic sector. “This law provides certainty and legal protection for domestic workers and regulates employment relations in the domestic sector in a fairer and more professional manner,” said Puan.

She added that the regulation arranges employment relations that have so far been informal into a more structured form without eliminating the ingrained familial values. “Familial values are still maintained, but complemented by a professional work framework that is recognised and protected by law, thus creating a warm yet fair relationship,” she stated.
