Domestic Workers Protection Bill Set to Become Law, Dasco: A Gift for May Day and Kartini Day

Jakarta – The Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) will be brought to the DPR plenary session to be enacted into law on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that this RUU PPRT will serve as a gift for workers and to commemorate Kartini Day, which falls today.

“A gift for May Day and Kartini Day; tomorrow is Kartini Day,” Dasco told reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

Dasco then revealed the reason for expediting the discussion of the RUU PPRT. He mentioned that this bill represents a commitment from the DPR that has been ongoing for 22 years.

“If the question is why? We have been tasked by the public with homework to complete several laws that we have also promised to the people. Today, we are completing the Domestic Workers Bill that has been pending for 22 years; we are finalising it,” he said.

It was previously reported that the DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg) and the government have agreed to advance the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) to the next level in the plenary session to be enacted into law.

The decision was made during the Baleg DPR Plenary Meeting held on Monday evening, 20 April 2026. The meeting was directly chaired by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

Representatives from the government were also present, including the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas, Deputy Minister for State Secretariat (Wamensesneg) Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, and Deputy Minister of Manpower (Wamenaker) Afriansyah Noor.

Before the decision was taken, all factions first expressed their respective views.

Then, in the mini-factional views, all factions stated their agreement with the RUU PPRT.

On that occasion, Dasco also gave the government representatives an opportunity to express their views, represented by Menkum Supratman.

Afterwards, Dasco proceeded with the decision-making. He asked all meeting members whether the RUU PPRT could be advanced to the next level in the plenary session.

“Next, we seek the meeting’s approval on whether the results of the discussion on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill can be processed further in accordance with the legislative process; if approved?” Dasco asked.
