Domestic Workers Protection Bill Brought to Plenary, Dasco: A May Day and Kartini Day Gift
The Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) will be brought to the DPR plenary session for approval as law tomorrow. Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, described this product from the DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg) as a gift for workers to commemorate May Day and Kartini Day, both observed tomorrow.
“A May Day gift, Kartini Day gift. For tomorrow’s Kartini Day. Insyaallah, tomorrow. Tomorrow in the plenary session, Insyaallah,” said Dasco after the RUU PPRT plenary meeting at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday night (20/4/2026).
Dasco explained the reasons for the rapid discussion of the RUU PPRT. He emphasised that the RUU PPRT has been a DPR commitment for 22 years.
“If the question earlier was why? We were given homework by the public to complete several laws that we have also promised to the people. Today we are completing the Domestic Workers Bill that has been pending for 22 years, we are finalising it,” he said.
This Gerindra DPP Daily Chairman stated that there are still several bills that must be completed by the DPR. One of them is the Indigenous Peoples Law.
“And there are still several laws like the Indigenous Peoples Law which has also been pending for 20 years, and we with Baleg colleagues and the government will also complete it,” said Dasco.
“And there is also the Witness and Victim Protection Law, the Labour Law which we have also started discussing, and the Asset Forfeiture Law. So Insyaallah this year, we might complete several that have indeed become our homework,” he added.
Dasco mentioned that there is a one-year time limit related to the implementation of the RUU PPRT. Oversight of the substance of the RUU PPRT will be strengthened.
“Earlier we all agreed that we are given one year for its implementation to ensure it is done properly. And regarding oversight and others, the DPR and government have certainly agreed to monitor the running of this law. And of course, there are some that the government might add later,” he added.
