Domestic Workers Protection Act Regulates Humane Working Hours for Household Workers

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Working hours for domestic workers (PRT) are among the aspects regulated in the Domestic Workers Protection Act (UU PPRT), which was recently passed by the House of Representatives (DPR).

Article 1 paragraph (14) of the UU PPRT draft explains that working hours refer to the time spent performing domestic tasks based on an agreement or work contract.

“Domestic workers have the right: b. to work with humane working hours,” states Article 15 paragraph (1) letter b of the confirmed UU PPRT draft, Tuesday (21/4/2026).

In addition, the UU PPRT draft also regulates ten scopes of work for domestic workers. Article 10 of the UU PPRT draft specifies that the scope of PRT work includes washing, cooking, driving, and maintaining the home.

The following are the ten scopes of domestic work in the UU PPRT draft:

In the UU PPRT draft that has been passed by the DPR, it is stipulated that wages for domestic workers are provided by the employer.

“The Employer of Domestic Workers, hereinafter referred to as the Employer, is an individual person and/or several persons in a household who employ PRT by paying wages,” states Article 1 paragraph (4) of the UU PPRT draft.

Then, Article 11 paragraph (1) of the UU PPRT draft regulates that the employment relationship between PRT and the employer is based on an agreement or work contract.

The work contract regulated in Article 11 paragraph (2) of the UU PPRT draft must include at least nine items. One of them is the amount and method of wage payment.

“Further provisions regarding the amount and timing of wage payment to be agreed or contracted as referred to in paragraph (2) shall be regulated in a Government Regulation,” states Article 15 paragraph (3) of the UU PPRT draft.
