Domestic Worker Protection Bill to be Passed Tomorrow, Sufmi Dasco: A Gift for Kartini Day and May Day
Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco stated that the ratification of the Domestic Worker Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) will serve as a special gift to the public in commemoration of Kartini Day and Labour Day (May Day).
“A May Day gift, a Kartini Day gift for tomorrow,” said Dasco when met at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday night (20/4/2026).
In addition to the RUU PPRT, Dasco emphasised that the DPR is committed to promptly completing several other bills that are outstanding tasks for the institution this year.
“And there are still several laws such as the Indigenous Peoples Law, which has been pending for 20 years; we, along with Baleg colleagues and the government, will also finalise it,” said Dasco.
“And there is the Witness and Victim Protection Law, the Labour Law which we have already started discussing, and the Asset Forfeiture Law. Thus, insha’Allah this year, we may complete several that are indeed our homework,” he added.
This agreement was reached in the plenary meeting of the RUU PPRT between the DPR RI Legislation Body (Baleg) and the government held on Monday (20/4/2026).
“Can the results of the discussion on the Revision of the Domestic Worker Protection Law be processed further in accordance with statutory regulations if approved?” said Deputy Speaker of DPR RI Sufmi Dasco during the meeting on Monday.
“With approval, a plenary session meeting will be duplicated in the near future. Insha’Allah tomorrow,” Dasco asserted.
This decision was taken after eight factions in the DPR RI Baleg conveyed their views on the results of the RUU PPRT discussion and agreed to have it promptly ratified through a plenary session.
Meanwhile, government representatives present included Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, Deputy Minister for State Secretariat Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, and Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor.
The Baleg leadership included Baleg Chairman Bob Hasan, Deputy Baleg Chairman Sturman Pandjaitan, and Ahmad Iman Sukri.
With this determination, the RUU PPRT will be ratified in the nearest plenary session held by DPR RI.
