Domestic Worker in West Jakarta Embezzles Employer's ATM Funds Totalling Rp 450 Million, Used to Purchase Car

Police have arrested a woman working as a domestic helper, NS (33), for theft and embezzlement of Rp 450 million belonging to her employer in Kalideres, West Jakarta.

Kalideres Police Chief Commissioner Rihold Sihotang said the suspect was arrested by the Kalideres Police pursuit team at her workplace. The case came to light after the victim reported suspicious transactions on her bank account.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect took advantage of the full trust placed in her by the victim,” Rihold said in a statement on Tuesday (14/7/2026).

As the victim’s caregiver, NS had been entrusted with her ATM card and PIN to withdraw cash for the victim’s daily needs. However, the suspect betrayed that trust and is believed to have gradually withdrawn money well beyond the victim’s needs.

“As a result of her actions, the victim suffered losses of around Rp 450 million,” he said.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Kalideres Police, Inspector Rachmad Wibowo, said most of the proceeds had been sent to the suspect’s hometown in Tuban, East Java. The embezzled money was used to buy a car, a motorcycle and a number of pieces of jewellery.

“The investigation found that the money taken by the suspect was used to buy a four-wheeled vehicle, a motorcycle and jewellery. We have now secured several items of jewellery allegedly bought with the proceeds of the crime, as well as the victim’s ATM card, as evidence,” Rachmad said.

Investigators are still tracing other assets suspected to stem from the criminal act, including the car and motorcycle purchased by the suspect. The suspect is currently being detained at the Kalideres Police Station and has been charged under Article 476 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.
