Domestic Worker Assault Case in Sunter Settled Out of Court

Jakarta — A domestic worker (ART) who was assaulted by her employer in Sunter, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, has reached an amicable settlement with the accused.

Head of Public Relations for North Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Maryati Jonggi, stated that the victim, identified as SY (57), and the accused, identified as HW (42), have agreed to settle following the alleged assault.

Both SY and HW have been questioned and provided statements to police.

“Both the victim and the accused have been clarified by investigators,” Jonggi said when confirmed on Monday (2 March 2026).

“The victim actually did not want to file a report because to this day, the victim continues to work at the perpetrator’s residence,” Jonggi explained.

He stated that the assault occurred in February 2023. The incident began with a miscommunication between SY and HW. SY was accused of soiling a place of worship in HW’s residence during Lunar New Year celebrations.

“There was a miscommunication between the perpetrator and the victim. The perpetrator then punched and kicked the victim in the back,” he said.

Jonggi confirmed that the case remains under investigation and is awaiting the results of counselling from the Women Empowerment and Child Protection agency (P3A).

“The next development will await the counselling results from P3A. The case itself is being handled by investigators from the Women and Child Unit and Personnel Division of North Jakarta Metro Police,” he said.

Based on a video posted by Instagram account @jakutinfo_id, there are three video clips showing the domestic worker experiencing violence. In the first clip, a person wearing a white shirt is seen punching the head of the domestic worker wearing a red striped shirt. The person in the white shirt then picks up a grey object from a table whilst pointing towards the victim.
