Domestic travel in China hits a record high in 2025
Beijing (ANTARA) - Domestic travel in China touched a record high in 2025. In the nine-day Spring Festival holiday from 15 to 23 February, the country recorded 596 million domestic trips, with tourism expenditure exceeding 800 billion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,448) or about USD 115.93 billion (1 USD = Rp16,886), both marking new records, Sun said at a press briefing on the sidelines of the annual session of the national legislature. Throughout 2025, domestic travel by Chinese residents reached 6.5 billion trips, up more than 16 per cent year-on-year, with tourism expenditure reaching 6.3 trillion yuan, up 9.5 per cent, setting new records in both volume and expenditure, Sun added. Sun said that the cultural and tourism sectors will formulate and implement the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for culture and tourism development, which will be aligned with the overall national development strategy. This will help to further optimise the role of these sectors in enriching society intellectually and emotionally while empowering economic and social development, the minister said.
