Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism states that the large movement of domestic tourists (wisnus) during this year’s Eid holiday has boosted the economy and tourism sector in the regions.

“The positive momentum of the Eid holiday is expected to continue and provide tangible impacts on regional and national economic growth,” stated the Ministry of Tourism to ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Citing data from the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Tourism notes that the number of public movements during the 2026 Eid holiday period was recorded at 147.55 million people.

This figure represents an increase of 2.53 percent from the 2026 prediction of 143.92 million people. This indicates high public movement during the Eid holiday, including for tourism purposes.

“However, this is still an estimate; real data awaits from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) regarding the number of domestic travellers using public transport,” it said.

The chain effect of increased public mobility drives higher tourist spending, among others, on transportation, cuisine, accommodation, and local shopping.

In the accommodation sector, hotel occupancy rates (TPK) in various regions showed an upward trend during the Eid period from 18 to 24 March 2026.

Meanwhile, in several major returnee destinations, TPK was also recorded as quite high, although varying, including East Java around 70 percent, Yogyakarta 70 percent, Central Java 63 percent, Bali 63.34 percent, and Serang Regency reaching 90 to 100 percent.

According to the ministry, the estimated average tourist spending during the 2026 Eid holiday is Rp3.78 million per family or Rp1.15 million per person. This spending amount is slightly lower compared to last year’s Eid at Rp4.9 million per family or Rp1.2 million per person.

Estimates from various institutions show relatively high figures, such as KADIN at Rp161.8 trillion, IDX around Rp148 trillion, and CORE Indonesia up to Rp190 trillion. This range indicates optimism regarding increased economic activity during the period.

Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism also claims that this year’s Eid holiday momentum is a strong signal that domestic tourism is increasingly resilient and inclusive.

For this reason, the ministry will continue to strengthen synergies with related ministries/institutions, regional governments, and tourism industry players to maintain the quality of destination services, enhance accessibility, and promote various stimuli for tourist movement throughout the year.
