Domestic Pickup and Truck Production Over the Past Three Years
The Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, stated that domestic pickup and truck production proved insufficient for the needs of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative this year. The state-owned enterprise subsequently opted to import 35,000 Mahindra Scorpio Pick Up units and 35,000 Tata Motors Yodha pickups along with 35,000 Tata Ultra T.7 trucks.
Joao stated that prior to procuring pickups and trucks, Agrinas had consulted with several automotive brands. “We ensured that every brand we invited received a procurement notice,” he said during a press conference at his office on Thursday, 25 February 2026.
Joao believed the vehicle import policy could save up to Rp46.5 trillion in budget allocation for the Merah Putih Village Cooperative. The budget utilised for purchasing these vehicles amounted to Rp24.66 trillion.
The vehicles will be deployed for operations across 80,000 Merah Putih Village Cooperative units throughout Indonesia. The cooperative is targeted to be fully operational this year or within the two-year tenure of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
