Domestic Helper Caught on CCTV Stealing Money and Gold Rings from Employer in Denpasar
A theft committed by a domestic helper in East Denpasar was uncovered after being captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the employer’s residence. Domestic helper AD is suspected of stealing cash and gold jewellery belonging to the employer in the Kesiman Kertalangu village area.
The case came to light after the victim reported the missing money and jewellery from the residence on Sekar Sari Street, Gang IX A, Banjar Batur Sari. Investigation was subsequently conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of East Denpasar Police Station.
East Denpasar Police Station Commander Kompol I Ketut Tomiyasa stated that the victim, I Putu Oka Sudarsana, first discovered the missing items on Monday, 2 March. Suspicion arose after the victim reviewed CCTV footage from the residence.
“The victim watched CCTV footage showing someone taking a wallet from the bedroom. Upon checking, it was found that money and two gold rings belonging to the victim’s child were missing,” said Tomiyasa on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered losses of approximately 11.5 million rupiahs. The losses comprised 6.5 million rupiahs in cash and two gold rings.
The investigation led by Criminal Investigation Officer Iptu I Nyoman Agus Putra Ardiana pointed to AD, who worked as a domestic helper at the victim’s residence.
Police subsequently apprehended the suspect at a rented house on Sekar Sari Street on Friday, 6 March.
“We managed to apprehend the suspect at the rented accommodation in the Sekar Sari Street area,” stated Tomiyasa.
During questioning, AD admitted to taking money from the victim in stages. The money was taken from wallets, bags and piggy banks in the victim’s home. Additionally, the suspect also took two gold rings.
“The suspect and evidence have been secured at East Denpasar Police Station for further legal proceedings,” said Tomiyasa.
