This is what we must face together because the world is still under pressure from war, geopolitical tensions, which affect the energy market and global energy prices. And this certainly has an impact everywhere, including the transportation sector, including aviation,” said AHY to reporters in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026).

AHY affirmed that he will continue to pay attention to this issue. He hopes that the crisis in the Middle East can improve over time.

“This is what must be addressed because of the increasing global energy prices, including for the aviation sector. I think this is what we need to convey and make a priority. And we certainly also hope that the situation in the Middle East will improve over time,” he said.

AHY stated that he will continue to discuss this issue with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub). He will also hold dialogues with airlines operating in Indonesia.

“This is still being discussed. I will sit down with the Ministry of Transportation, which regulates this overall, and also with the airlines operating in Indonesia,” he explained.

It is known that the Kemenhub has officially implemented a new regulation regarding additional fuel costs or fuel surcharges for domestic economy class air tickets. This regulation is outlined in the Minister of Transportation’s Decree (Kepmenhub) Number KM 1041 of 2026, which can be applied by airlines starting from May 13, 2026.

The Director General of Air Transportation of the Kemenhub, Lukman F Laisa, explained that the fuel surcharge policy is a mechanism regulated by the government to anticipate fluctuations in avtur prices and maintain the sustainability of national air transportation services.

“The adjustment of the fuel surcharge is carried out based on the mechanisms and formulas set forth in the regulations. The government continues to ensure that the implementation of this policy is carried out in a measured way while still paying attention to consumer protection, affordability of fares, and the operational sustainability of airlines,” said Lukman, as quoted by detikFinance, Thursday (14/5).
