Dollar Reaches Rp18,000, Purbaya: Still Within the Macroeconomic Assumptions for the 2026 State Budget
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that the pressure on the Rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, which has now reached Rp18,000/US$, is still within the macroeconomic assumptions for the 2026 State Budget.
Therefore, he assured that the State Budget would not be significantly impacted by the Rupiah’s weakening against the dollar, including the burden of debt coupon payments in US dollars.
“The coupon is constant. However, when the Rupiah weakens, the payment in Rupiah increases. But basically, this is still within the range of our previous calculations,” said Purbaya when met in the DPR building area, Jakarta, Thursday (June 4, 2026).
Purbaya admitted that the 2026 State Budget macroeconomic assumptions initially considered an exchange rate of Rp16,500/US$. However, after the conflict in the Middle East caused global oil prices to rise, the assumptions were adjusted with a higher limit.
“When fuel prices rose, we calculated the adjustments, which were quite high. But basically, the Rupiah’s fundamentals are below the current level, stronger than now,” explained Purbaya.
