Dollar at Rp 17,600/US$, BI Governor: Rupiah Remains Stable
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo has emphasised that the movement of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar remains stable at this time. Although the value has breached the level of Rp 17,660/US$, Perry stressed that in terms of volatility, the rupiah exchange rate has experienced changes of approximately 5.4%.
“We checked earlier, and year-to-date until now, it is at 5.4%, which is actually still stable,” said Perry during a working meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday (18/5/2026).
Perry stated that BI does not specifically target a particular level or exchange rate for the rupiah against the US dollar; rather, the priority for BI is the stability of its movement. “We are not talking about the level of the rupiah exchange rate, but its stability. What we are monitoring now is what we call stability, which is the average volatility of the exchange rate over 20 days,” Perry asserted.
