Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rupiah exchange rate has finally returned to a strengthening trend against the United States dollar in recent days. “The rupiah exchange rate strengthened, supported by BI’s stabilisation response,” revealed BI Governor Perry Warjiyo during a press conference on Thursday (18/6/2026). Perry stated that on 17 June 2026, the exchange rate was recorded at 17,730 per US dollar, strengthening by 0.76% compared to the end of May 2026. Previously, the rupiah’s depreciation was influenced by global uncertainty and large corporate foreign exchange requirements. The exchange rate had briefly touched the level of Rp18,200 per US dollar. Therefore, a series of policies were pursued for stability, including raising the benchmark interest rate, encouraging an increase in SRBI yields, and intervention in various markets. “Going forward, BI believes the rupiah will be stable and strengthen, supported by attractive prospects and yields,” he concluded.
