Laboratory test results on a brain sample from a dog that bit three residents during a celebration in Tegal Badeng Timur Village, Negara District, Jembrana, Bali, have been released. Testing conducted by the Denpasar Centre for Veterinary Medicine (BBVet) showed the dog was positive for rabies.

“We have not yet received the official physical results, but the information has been received via electronic message. Of the two samples sent, one sample from Tegal Badeng Timur tested positive,” said Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health at the Jembrana Agriculture and Food Agency, I Gusti Ngurah Putu Sugiarta, when confirmed on Sunday (21/6/2026).

Based on data collected, two samples of rabies-transmitting animals from Jembrana were previously sent to BBVet Denpasar. The laboratory results released as of 21 July 2026 showed one positive sample and one negative sample.

Sugiarta stressed that the Jembrana Agriculture and Food Agency will take swift action to anticipate wider transmission. The agency will deploy a team to the location where the rabies case was discovered and carry out emergency vaccinations.

“We will follow up with emergency vaccination first in the area where the bite occurred,” explained Sugiarta.

Previously, three residents were attacked by a dog during a celebration in Tegal Badeng Timur Village, Jembrana, on Monday (15/6). A male dog, approximately three years old, suddenly appeared and became aggressive at the event location.

The brownish-yellow dog immediately attacked the gathered residents. Although it was initially chased away, the aggressive dog kept returning to attack. The animal only left the location after being pelted with objects and forcibly driven away by residents.

The three residents who were bitten sustained injuries. The victims were identified as Sodikun (47), who suffered bite wounds on his left calf, and two toddlers, Husain (5) and Nara (4).

The following day, the dog was found dead. The dog’s owner is reportedly ill, which led to the animal being poorly cared for.
