Documents Required When Paying Vehicle Tax Without the Original Owner's ID in West Java
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Paying motor vehicle tax in West Java is now even easier, even for people who do not have the first owner’s ID card. The latest policy from the West Java Provincial Government eliminates one requirement that has often been an obstacle, especially for owners of used vehicles. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the public now only needs to bring two main documents to pay the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB), namely the Vehicle Number Registration Certificate (STNK) and the ID card of the party in possession of the vehicle. This policy is a breath of fresh air, especially for people who buy used vehicles without complete documents from the previous owner. Previously, the absence of the first owner’s ID card often hindered the tax payment process, even leading to arrears. With this new regulation, the annual tax payment process becomes much more practical. The policy in question is contained in Circular Letter (SE) Number 47/KU.03.02/BAPENDA, which is stated to apply from 6 April 2026.
