Doctors advise homebound travellers to rest every two hours whilst driving
Jakarta - Dr Waluyo Dwi Cahyono, a specialist in internal medicine, has advised homebound travellers driving vehicles to ensure their bodies are in optimal condition before beginning their journey and to rest every two hours during travel to avoid excessive fatigue and maintain concentration whilst driving.
“When driving, you must rest every two hours,” said Dr Waluyo Dwi Cahyono, SpPD-KEMD, FINASIM, during the Halodoc Talks event entitled “Transitioning Safely: Managing Ramadan Health Risks During Eid Festivities” in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He also recommended that homebound travellers regulate their eating habits and avoid overeating during their journey.
“Do not push yourself, and consume measured amounts of food,” said the doctor, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Gadjah Mada University.
According to him, homebound travellers with conditions such as diabetes that require regular medication must maintain discipline in taking their medication whilst travelling.
“If they are taking medication, even whilst travelling, the medication must still be consumed,” he said.
“If the medication is effective for eight hours, then it must be taken every eight hours. If not, hypoglycaemia could occur,” he added.
He noted that all types of food can fundamentally be consumed by diabetic patients, but the portion size must be measured according to caloric requirements.
He emphasised the importance of regulating eating and rest to maintain health during the Eid holiday homebound travel period.
Homebound travellers are advised to rest and not push themselves to continue travelling if their body is already fatigued.
