Doctor warns public on diarrhea

BOGOR: The chairman of the Healthy Indonesia Foundation (YIS), Dr. Abdul Mughni, warned the public to stay alert for diarrhea specially during the changeover from the rainy to the dry season.

"Diarrhea causes dehydration which can lead to death," he said on Monday. "It's more lethal for infants and toddlers."

He called on the public to avoid dehydration if a family member was suffering from diarrhea by giving oralit, a salt and sugar solution.

The Bogor Health Agency official in charge of health information, Syarif Hidayat, also urged people to maintain sanitation in their homes, specially the bathrooms, and to wash their hands before consuming food. -- Antara
