The doctor who treated the defendant, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, was examined by the judge. The doctor explained Nadiem’s health condition.

“Yes, it’s now known that Nadiem is ill. Therefore, since this is a personal matter, it was proven in court what his illness is. The doctor came directly,” said Nadiem’s legal counsel, Dodi S Abdulkadir, during a break in the trial at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (6/4/2026).

Dodi did not detail what illness Nadiem has. However, Dodi mentioned that Nadiem’s illness could pose a threat if an infection ultimately emerges.

“And then what? Nadiem could die; the doctor said if he gets an infection. But Nadiem is crazy. ‘It’s fine, no problem,’ he said (Nadiem),” Dodi stated.

Dodi hopes the court can be conducted humanely. He hopes court hours can be strictly limited.

“Is it humane to have a trial until 12 midnight? Is it humane? There are regulations. People should be respected. People want to worship. Muslims want to perform Maghrib and Isha prayers, to worship. Therefore, court hours must be strictly limited, not just as they please,” he said.

In this case, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim is accused of corruption related to the procurement of Chromebook laptops during his tenure as Minister. The project is said to have caused state losses of Rp 2.1 trillion.

Nadiem has filed an exception. The judge rejected the exception and requested the trial to proceed to the proof stage.
