Doctor Tifa's First Trial to be Broadcast Live, East Jakarta District Court Area Tightly Secured

The East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim) will hold the first trial of the alleged defamation and false diploma accusations against the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) with the defendant Doctor Tifa on Thursday, 2 July 2026. Anticipating high public interest in the case, PN Jaktim has prepared a number of measures to maintain security while ensuring the transparency of the trial process. PN East Jakarta Spokesperson, Immanuel Tarigan, stated that media crews are permitted to broadcast the trial proceedings live via live streaming. However, this provision does not apply during the evidentiary stage. “During the trial, media crews are allowed to conduct live streaming. However, during the evidentiary stage later, court policy states that live streaming is not permitted. According to the law, witness testimonies must not be heard by one another,” Immanuel emphasised on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. He explained that the ban on live broadcasting during the evidentiary agenda does not change the status of the trial, which remains open to the public. Media crews can still attend and cover the proceedings. Meanwhile, PN East Jakarta Secretary Zulfikar Arif Rahman Purba stated that security will be tightened with cordoning off starting from the main gate to anticipate the arrival of supporters. The court has also prohibited the use of the office courtyard as a parking area for visitors or supporters of the defendant. As an alternative, PN East Jakarta has prepared tents in the front yard equipped with monitors so that the public can still watch the trial proceedings. “Given the limited capacity of the main courtroom, not all visitors and media crews can enter. Therefore, we have prepared special tents outside so that the public can still witness this legal process in an orderly manner,” Zulfikar explained. The court also urged the public not to crowd the trial location and to follow the proceedings via live broadcasts provided by various national television media and digital platforms.
