Doctor Tifa Wins Exception, Judge Nullifies Indictment in Jokowi Diploma Case

The legal challenge filed by Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Dokter Tifa, has proven successful. The panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court granted the notice of objection, or exception, submitted by her legal team in the case of alleged slander and defamation related to accusations of a fake diploma belonging to Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This interlocutory decision renders the prosecutor’s indictment null and void. Consequently, the trial will not proceed to the evidentiary phase as it normally would. Presiding Judge Christina Endarwati stated that the objection raised by Dokter Tifa’s legal advisory team was accepted. “Declaring that the objection from the Defendant’s advocate team is granted,” she said while reading the interlocutory verdict at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026. In its considerations, the panel of judges assessed that the indictment prepared by the Public Prosecutor in case Number 301/Pid.Sus/2026/PN Jkt.Tim was not drafted meticulously. Therefore, the indictment was declared null and void. As a consequence, the trial process cannot proceed to the evidentiary stage. The panel of judges also ordered that the case files be returned to the prosecutor. All court costs are to be borne by the state.
