Jakarta (ANTARA) — The decline in collagen production with age has driven the development of various skin-care approaches, including the use of collagen stimulators.

However, choosing a treatment method requires consideration of safety, product quality and the clinical evidence supporting its use.

“When choosing a collagen stimulator, safety is the top priority. Personally, I always pay attention to a product’s certifications,” said dermatologist, venereologist and aesthetic medicine specialist Dr Deasy Lius, Sp.DVE, in a statement on Friday.

One approach in aesthetic medicine is the use of biostimulatory substances designed to encourage collagen formation. The treatment aims to improve skin quality gradually, although results may vary from person to person depending on skin condition and the body’s response.

As biomaterial technology develops, a range of biostimulator products with different characteristics and mechanisms of action are being developed. Evaluation should cover clinical evidence, expected benefits, potential side effects and the suitability of the product for the patient’s condition.

Against this backdrop, Swedish biotechnology company Nordberg Medical launched Julaine of Sweden in Indonesia in 2026. The poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)-based injectable product is designed to stimulate collagen formation.

“Julaine has a strong safety profile, and I greatly appreciate Nordberg Medical’s efforts to obtain EU MDR certification and pursue approval from the US FDA. This reflects its commitment to quality and patient safety,” Dr Deasy said.
